One Prevention Alliance is a COMMUNITY coalition, it takes the community to function at full capacity.  February seemed like a great month to mention some of the recent LOVE we have felt from our community! Students at Wind River Middle School start a health-focused club

Wind River Middle School’s Healthy Student Club is the newest club in the Stevenson-Carson School District. This student-led club’s first goal they identified focuses on raising mental health awareness and reducing the related stigma on campus through peer-led activities and education. How did the club begin? One Prevention Alliance Community Coalition’s primary goal is to provide our youth information and opportunities to help them make healthy decisions as they learn, grow, and navigate their world. PAWS Club elementary students enjoy lessons from local volunteers

Positive Action Wins Success (PAWS) Club is a fun and safe place for 3rd–5th grade students after school on Wednesdays. Better yet, it has a component of intentional education that supports One Prevention Alliance’s goal of increasing the number of healthy choices students make as they grow and develop into teens. The PAWS Club currently has 20 members, and most are students from Carson Elementary School (CES), located in Skamania County. Two club members are part of local homeschool programs. Did you know that there is a substance use prevention club at Stevenson High School? Stand Up 4 Teens (SU4T) is a youth-run coalition with support from advisors Riley Hershberger and Phoebe Jud. The club meets twice a month at lunchtime so that they can discuss ways to support their peers and spread the word about the dangers of substance use. When asked why they decided to get involved with SU4T, one student shared “it’s important to have substance use prevention at school from other students”. The Incredible Years Basic Program strengthens parent-child interactions and attachment, reducing harsh discipline and fostering parents’ ability to promote children’s social, emotional, and language development. Parents also learn how to build school readiness skills and so they can promote children’s emotional regulation and social skills. One Prevention Alliance is offering an opportunity for students going into 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade to a FREE DAY of KIDS CAMP! Three Topics: Legos, Potions and/or Art Every day will have activities, a healthy snack, games, information about making healthy decisions, and a free pass to go to the Stevenson Community Pool. Camp begins at 9:00 a.m. and is done at noon. However, campers have the option to stay for lunch and then to be escorted to the Stevenson Community Pool.
